Christmas Part Two

She absolutely LOVES this dog.
I think she thinks it's real, she was giving out treats to Jet and brought one over
to this guy and put it in his mouth. Seriously, too stickin' adorable!

Christmas Part One

This is from Christmas Eve, Santa was VERY good to Lola!
You can't see in this picture, but presents continued to the left, and behind where I was standing taking the picture too. And to think that Santa agreed to take it easy.

Phew, all these gifts are exhausting!
Time for a rest with Daddy.

Christmas Part Two tomorrow.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Wishing you all a safe and happy New Year.
I wish for each of you that the year to come is filled with peace, love,
kindness, smiles, creativity, health, and laughter.

As a side note, I have not neglected posting about our amazing Christmas Day, I have been quite busy this past week, and promise to post about our Christmas and all the incredibly amazing and thoughtful gifts Lola received this coming week.

Then, hopefully the following week, I will finally get to post her Birthday Party which was back in October. I have a bunch of fantastic tutorials, recipes, and party ideas for you.

Santa's Workshop

Jeff was so excited to have his first late Christmas Eve night toy assembling project.

Uncle Jim was a big help!

 Uncle Beezer, not so much.

The guys got it done in plenty of time, and it looks fantastic!
She is going to be so surprised!

See the finished project here.

Josh Finkle

These gorgeous handcrafted wooden toys designed by Josh Finkle are extinct
animals that he says are "meant to incite wonder and interest in creatures that existed
only a short while ago." I think that these figures are brilliant, artfully crafted, and exactly
the sort of toy that I want Lola to have when she is growing up.

Left to Right: Steller's Sea Cow, Tasmanian Tiger, Quagga, Pig Footed Bandicoot,

Packaging unfolds to explain extinction of animal.

Play Dough

Today we made homemade play dough. It was the perfect texture, and took less than ten minutes. Lola is obviously too little to actually mold the dough, but she had a blast squishing, squeezing, and pulling it apart. I decided against adding coloring this time, next time I might try and make a few different colors to play with.

I couldn't resist showing you these next two pictures.
This is when Lola decide to taste the dough, poor thing, she was so sad!

Haunted House

Halloween is so much fun because it is a time of year to be a kid again.
A chance to call upon our creativity and delve into the world of make believe, spooktacular mysteries, and ...legos? Yup, you read that right, artist Mike Doyle created these amazing haunted house sculptures entirely out of legos. The house above is 5' x 3' x 2', consists of
50 - 60 thousand (seriously SIXTY THOUSAND) pieces
, and took him 450 hours to build.

Below are a few close-up images, as well as two other spooky lego structures. They
are absolutely amazing, totally unique, and completely put my flat roofed square adobe
style lego architectural achievements to shame!

Information on his process here.

Having a Ball

We never use Lola's pack and play anymore (unless we are staying the night somewhere)
so I decided to re-purpose it into the perfect ball pit! It's the perfect size, and the sides are high enough that the balls don't spill out all over the place the way that they did with the tent they came with. (I'll show you what I did with the tent in another post).

Magnificently Magnified

I first saw these plush toys in a shop in Telluride a while back, and thought that
they were absolutely hilarious. They are viruses, cells, microorganisms and germs
magnified thousands of times and made into plush dolls...pure genius.

They are absolutely clever, positively gross, and just the perfect amount of wildly
disturbing that makes them actually cute, and just the sort of thing I love. I looked up
their site and it turns out that they have hundreds of dolls to choose from including
E.coli, red blood cell (shown), and algae.

And while I could never bring myself to allow Lola to play with a black mold (left),
MRSA (center), or chlamydia (right), doll...

I have no problem with  her playing with the brain cell (left)!
Heck, they are so cheap ($8.95)....Maybe I'll get her the water bear (middle),
and the stem cell (right) too, just because I love them so much.
